Encouraged by an early addiction to Indiana Jones films, studying archaeology at university was an obvious decision. However, unconvinced by the traditional career options open to a post grad archaeology student I took to the road and have been travelling on and off ever since! I now have the great fortune of being able to combine work with two of my great passions: travel and archaeology. I’ve travelled to over 50 countries across all 7 continents.
What have been your favourite travelling experiences to date?
Too many to choose from! Watching dawn come up from the top of Mount Sinai, a 2 month overland trip from Istanbul to Cairo, dog sledding in The Arctic?
What’s been the most interesting site(s) you’ve visited?
Angkor, Palmyra & San Agustin (Columbia)
Your favourite Traveller Tours?
Easter Island with Jo Anne Van Tilburg, the world’s leading authority
The one travel item you never leave home without?
A kikois – more multifunctional than a Swiss army penknife!
What’s your best piece of travel advice?
Leave your expectations behind
Where would you like to go next and why?
Our ‘Destination Kashgar’ trip. An arduous journey through Kipling’s Great crossing five countries, but the adventure and the views of the Pamirs more than make up for any discomfort.
