INTRODUCTION

"This journey will take us from the Caspian Sea to the shadow of Mount Ararat, exploring a fascinating mix of religious traditions. Azerbaijan has a rich Islamic cultural heritage but also has a still-functioning Zoroastrian fire-temple. Georgia, the land of Jason and the Argonauts, reminds one of Tuscany 50 years ago: a land of unspoilt scenery, superb food and wine and magnificent Christian art. Armenia adopted Christianity in the early fourth century and developed a magnificent architectural heritage that passed into Islam. The traditions of these three countries are distinct, yet have also become interwoven during their long histories. We will savour their rich heritage on this journey into three lands of Transcaucasia".
