INTRODUCTION

This journey sets out to explore the three main capitals of the Ottoman Empire - Bursa, Edirne and Constantinople. The first, Bursa, established at the foot of Mount Olympus, is particularly rich in early Ottoman architecture. From there via Troy to Edirne and finally Constantinople, whose imperial stature and importance is still reflected in the magnificence of its churches, palaces and mosques.
