INTRODUCTION

On this journey you will trace the imperial expansion of Rome, which turned the loess plains of the Danube and the rugged mountains of the interior into a Roman province. By AD 46 the Romans had conquered the entire Balkan Peninsula and you will visit their military strongholds and fortified cities including Philipoppolis, today’s Plovdiv, and Serdica, now Sofia.
