INTRODUCTION

The Byzantine civilisation flourished for a thousand years leaving a rich legacy of art and architecture. You will visit Ravenna, once the capital of the Western Roman Empire, for intricate mosaics and richly decorated buildings, then on to Venice with its renaissance glories and the lesser known sites of Aquileia, Grado and Porec, with monuments from the Byzantine and later periods.
