TOUR ITINERARY

  • London/Tashkent - Fly overnight.

  • Tashkent- Arrive in Tashkent. Afternoon tour of the 16th-century sector of the city with the Kukeldash Madrasah, the craft centre at the Barakhan Madrasah, the Abdulkasim Madrasah and Chorsu Bazaar.

  • Nukus, Khiva- Fly to Nukus to visit the Igor Savitsky collection, one of the world’s greatest exhibits of Soviet art from the 20s and 30s. Travel on to Khiva.

  • Khiva- Today visit the recently restored UNESCO site with its impressive palaces, mosques and houses decorated in blue and white tiles. Also visit carpet making and silk embroidery workshops.

  • Bukhara- Drive to Bukhara across the Kizilkum Desert, home to Bactrian camels. In the evening tour the Char Bakr Cemetery and take a walk through the old city.

  • Bukhara- Bukhara, former capital and a centre of Islamic learning, has over 300 mosques. Visit the Arg Citadel and museum, 10th-century Samanid Mausoleum and the Chashmah Ayyub, a traditional shrine restored by Timur in the 14th-century. Continue to the bazaar and visit Maguki-i Attari, the Kalan (Great) Minaret, Ulugh Beg and Abd al-Aziz madrasahs.

  • Bukhara- Visits to the mausolea of Sayf al-Din Bukharzi and Buyan Quli Khan, the 19th-century palace, Sitarah-i Mah-i Khassah and the Baha al-Din Sufi centre. A range of textile and craft activities from suzani embroidery to carpet weaving are practiced in the old town and you can watch or take part.

  • Shahr-i Sabz, Samarkand - Drive to Shahr-i Sabz, birthplace of Timur and his second capital. Visit the colossal arch that remains from his Aq Saray ‘White Palace’, the 14th-century Jahangir Mausoleum and three 15th-century mausolea - the Kok Gunbad, the Gunbad-i Sayyidan and Dar-al Siyadat. Visit the famous silk embroidery factory and a family of carpet weavers en route to Samarkand.

  • Samarkand- Visit the beautiful Gur-i Amir with its tile decorations and jade slab of Timur’s cenotaph, the magnificent Registan Square, the State Museum and the Bibi Khanum Friday Mosque. Afternoon visit to the remarkable Shah-i Zindah complex and the famous observatory of Ulugh Beg.

  • Samarkand- Visit the Afrasiyab Museum with wall paintings and ceramics from the 7th to 13th centuries. Continue to Ishrat Khanah, Khvajah Ahrar and Abd-i Darun. Free afternoon.

  • Samarkand, Tashkent - Morning return to Tashkent. Free afternoon.

  • Tashkent/ London - Return flight to London.
