Why Choose The Traveller?
Our Heritage
Formerly the tour operating department at the British Museum, The Traveller became an independent entity in 2003, but with the same ethos and retaining strong links with the staff and curators, many of whom continue to lead our tours. This enviable position has enabled us to become recognised as one of the UK’s leading specialists in archaeological, historic and cultural tours.
In the Company of Experts
Our long association and friendship with the British Museum and other academic institutions means we have an enviable pool of expertise from which to choose our tour lecturers. We carefully select our lecturers based on their expertise, unparalleled knowledge, companionship and ability to communicate with our clients. While travelling in the company of these experts is a unique experience in its own right, quite often their influence facilitates privileged access to archaeological sites and museums not usually open to the public.
Small is Beautiful
Our average group size is typically only ten people, far smaller than the larger group tours typically offered by our competitors, a factor which many of our clients appreciate. Travelling as part of a smaller group provides a more intimate, personalised and relaxed atmosphere, while making the logistics of visits to sites and museums that much easier.
Spoilt for Choice
We pride ourselves on offering the most diverse range of small group tours in the market, from Seville to Samarkand and Easter Island to Ethiopia. We are proud of our pioneering reputation and each year try to ensure our offering is fresh and exciting.
The Steppes Partnership
In 2010 we became part of Steppes Travel, adding their 22 years of experience to our own team’s, and enabling us to include additional destinations for 2012. Steppes Travel now have 35 people in the office, many of whom have been with the company over 10 years, making them what we believe is arguably the most knowledgeable team of specialist travel experts in the UK. Furthermore, like us, they travel each year to their region of specialisation, which ensures they are fully up to date with new developments.
24-Hour Emergency service
We do not believe in answer machines so 24 hours a day, 365 days a year your call will be answered by a person who can connect you to one of our team in the case of an emergency.
Financial Protection
The Traveller is a fully bonded tour operator (ATOL 6945) that complies with the Civil Aviation Authority bonding ensuring that your booking is fully protected.
Independence
Most importantly we remain a private company. This allows us to deliver a highly personal level of service with the freedom to handpick the best team in each country who are as dedicated as we are on delivering exciting and imaginative tours.
